The canvas was covered in paint, plaster, and testing of techniques and hues, a backsplash to catch stray paint and other mediums. Basically a tarp for smaller paintings as I worked, sitting on the floor.
The hues are vibrant and honestly the texture does not come across in the photos. I love to bleed oil pastel into varnishes, adding bright pops of color to the protective coatings. This piece is a good example of how to really get loud and deliberate with color and texture.
The title is one that came easily. Often artists are melancholy. I don’t know that we can be any different without stifling creativity. That tension is something g I’ve attempted to capture here. A soup of light and dark, playful and interrogating. A conversation piece for certain. A bold, commanding voice for your walls at home or in the office.
If I had more wall space, I’d certainly keep this one for myself. See less
