Comes from a … Read more A lovely vintage First Edition offset lithograph print after painting "Girl with Jugs" (1910) by Paul Klee. Comes from a rare First Limited English Edition art folio published in London, in 1958. Signed in the print. Printed on one side. Hand tipped-in on a board of heavy paper. Information regarding the original artwork will be found by lifting the plate. Copy on the back of the board is related to another piece in the folio. Detailed. Rich deep colors. Excellent condition - never framed.

The Girl with Jugs is said to be Klee's earliest extant painting. Before this, in 1909, he had done a small, realistic oil painting of a girl in a field, but this has been lost. In 1910 Klee had given up doing pictures on glass, but he retained his interest in "tonal" water colours, water colours in monochrome or black-and-white.

In his diary he wrote on his thirtieth birthday: "From now on I must be myself; realistic appraisals and no artificial onward-and-upward-with-the-arts!" See less
