Previous plates info
Rare Vintage Set of Seven Handmade Chartreuse Majolica Lotus Leaf Pattern Plates by Newell Stevens Ceramics. These plates were handmade by Newell B. Stevens, founder of Newell Stevens Ceramics in the late 1940's in Los Angeles, CA. The business started in his home in the Silverlake areas of California. This Lotus Pattern actually evolved from plaster castings made off lotus leaves Mr. Newell harvested from Echo Park Lake in Los Angeles. The Lotus Line of dishes was born and over the years were sold by many of the finest stores in the Country. In 1973 the company was purchased by the Metlox Company, who then made some changes for manufacturing, began to mass-produce the pattern. The size of the plates is 8 inches in diameter, are not marked and have three stilt marks on the back. One plate has a small chip present, the other four plates have no chips, cracks, or restoration. Please note the white areas are the glare from my camera. These are in excellent condition based on age and usage. These are a great piece of history from the times when Southern California produced many great independent potters.
Condition: Excellent based on age and usage. Only the very faintest of utensil marks, no chips, no cracks, no crazing, no damage.
These were rarely used, handsome plates for all service.
Dimensions: 10.75” W x 10.75” D x 1” H (size of each plate). less
