This is a 19th century Brewster & Ingrahams 17” gallery clock.
The clock case has a deeply carved mahogany surround … more This is a 19th century Brewster & Ingrahams 17” gallery clock.
The clock case has a deeply carved mahogany surround that is beautifully-aged with exceptional color and patina. The finely-turned frame surrounds a large-faced dial painted white with crisp black Roman numbers. The dial has delicately-designed matching pierced hands and a chapter ring that indicates the minutes, quarter-hours and hours. The front of the case is fitted with a convex glass that appears to be original. The convex painted wooden dial is in good condition and appears to be original. The clockmaker’s label is pasted onto the clock’s inside backboard.
The clock measures 17 inches in diameter across the back of its case.
The surface wear and rich patina are consistent with a clock made in the 19th century. This clock was made in Bristol, Connecticut in the 1850s. This is a fine example of a clock that may have hung on the wall of a small Victorian-era factory, school or office building.
