In the cymatium there are carved decorations of racemes surmounted by two birds of opposite direction which give a sense of harmony and balance. As can be seen from the images of the back of the mirrors, their creation is very laborious as the carved pieces are attached to the frame using small support points aided by a rear reinforcement. This process, whose effect is similar to fretwork, gives the pair of antique mirrors a sense of lightness and makes them suitable for inclusion in any environment. They are of Italian origin, date back to the early 1800s and are gilded in pure gold, in good condition. See less
