This dazzling duo’s maker has yet to be positively identified but the EAPG Society assigned it Pattern #9 and named it Big Button aka Button. William Heacock, a well-known researcher and author on antique pattern glass, attributes the pattern to the Crystal Glass Company of Bridgeport, Ohio in one of his patterned glass books, however, there are others who are not certain that is the case and are content with stating the OMN (original maker name) as unknown. Regardless of who made it, the cruet set is absolutely stunning and a testament to the creativity and craftsmanship that existed in our country at the time, late 19th century. The pattern’s motif consists of deep quadrants of buttons and stars; paneled necks leading up to the spouts and zipper cuts on the back of the angular applied handles. The cruets and stoppers were crafted using a blown mould. The faceted glass stoppers, original to the cruets, are round in shape with pointed tips. Each cruet measures 6” x 3” H/W with stoppers in place; 4¼” without stoppers; circumference 8” apiece; stoppers 2½” x 1¼” L/D apiece; weight for the set 1 lb.; crafted from clear blown mould glass; color is clear and vibrant. In excellent condition with a couple of “fleabites” that are almost indiscernible and not uncommon for glass that is 100+ years old. If you’re an EAPG cruet collector, this dynamic duo will be a perfect add to that collection or an ideal gift for someone that is.
