This is an … more PRESENTING a BEAUTIFUL piece of American and Texan Art by the highly regarded Texas Artist, Manuel Garza.
This is an Oil on Canvas from 1968
A VERY EARLY EXAMPLE of Garza's work.
It features 'Birds in Flight' in a rustic Texan setting.
Very nice signed on the bottom left by 'Manual Garza'. Also signed on the back and marked 'A-68'.
It is in its' original frame.'
It is EXTREMELY WELL PAINTED, has 'plenty' of detail and has REAL QUALITY! !
In an square Mexican (Baja) Frame. It features birds in flight (probably Quail) with pasture, trees, cactus, etc.
It has a loose leaflet all about the Artist, Manual Garza attached to the rear of the frame.
It also has its original price tag from the 1960's of $170.00.
What makes this painting all the more interesting and important is that Garza was only 28 years old when he painted this. It is a very EARLY painting by him and does not feature a small red bird, which subsequently became his trademark signature in the vast majority of his paintings, meaning that this ORIGINAL GARZA is EXTREMELY RARE!!!!
You will note that his signature on the bottom left is 'RED' and this might have given him the idea of the red bird in subsequent paintings.
A SUPER PIECE OF 20th Century TEXAS ART! !
It is beautifully painted, has REAL QUALITY and is in GREAT CONDITION! !
Manuel Garza(American, B. 1940)
Manuel Garza has made his vocation the painting of Central Texas Landscapes. Born in the Hill country, his parents were migrant farm workers. He traveled all over Texas and as far north as Michigan with his family, working along side them in the fields.
It was while picking cotton, digging potatoes, and other produce, that he developed a love of the land and the beauty it brings forth. His mother, who loved craftwork, noted his sketching on rest periods and encouraged her son to stay in school, learn, and do something with his talents. He became the only high school graduate in his family.
He is a self-taught artist. His only formal training was with Charles Normann at the Texas School of fine arts in 1966-68. There he frequently visited museums, studying the works of Porfirio Salinas, Robert Wood, and other western artists.
Although he paints in his studio, his works are influenced by his many long hikes where he often stops to capture the scenery both with photographs and sketches. He strives to depict Central Texas as it really is, Bluebonnet and autumn scenes being some of his favorites.
Today his work can be found in the collections of John Connally, LBJ and Lady Bird Johnson, Dolph Briscoe, and many other noted Western Art Collectors. His works are exhibited all over Texas.
MANUEL GARZA: One of the premier landscape artist of the Texas Hill Country working today, Manuel's trademark Redbird (found in each painting), his exacting detail, down to the last flower or rock, make each spring or autumn landscape come alive with photographic realism.
Manuel is a self taught artist who has studied the works of Porforio Salinas and Robert Wood in the museums and galleries of Texas. His studio is filled with sketches and photos that result from the long hikes in the fields of bluebonnets in the spring, and from walks along the riverbanks in the fall as he looks for sightings of the Texas wildlife that appears so often in his paintings.
His works can be found in the homes and offices of discriminating collectors of Western Art, among whom are John Connally, Lady Bird Johnson, Dolph Brisco and many others. less
