John Griffiths ( 1926 - 2012 ) was a British born artist, graphic illustrator and printmaker. In the 1950's there was a spectacular flowering of illustrative talent emanating from the Royal College of Art in London. This group of artists including John Griffiths were redefining the individuality of the Modern voice of commercial art. A master of line, and the bold language of color, Griffiths very much created his own expressive idiosyncratic Modernist aesthetic vision.
The Curwen Press was founded in 1863 to publish sheet music. In 1908 it began to print highly regarded limited edition books and fine art posters. The Curwen press did much to advance the use of color lithography printing, and at the vanguard of the design revolution that saw expression in British printing in the early 20th Century. Many well known graphic artists worked with The Curwen Press including John Griffiths. The press maintained a special close relationship with The Royal Academy of Art and Design and The Tate Gallery London.
