This set of six Murano glass tumblers showcases a harmonious blend of rich, vivid colors.
The glasses are created using the traditional Murano technique, where a sequence of Murano glass rods is transformed into a stunning three-dimensional design. In this process, the classic technique of straight canes is enhanced with a special twist. Before the glass is blown, it is reheated to the perfect softness. The glass is then twisted into a spiral, a process known as ritorto—or mena in Murano dialect, meaning “to lead.” The spiral is carefully interrupted, creating a unique fold that straightens the rods, offering a striking visual effect.
Inspired by Chaim Soutine's early works, particularly Les Platanes in Ceret (1920), these tumblers are a true testament to artistic craftsmanship.
This intricate design evokes the bold, artistic spirit of the 1960s, where the intersecting colors create a beautiful patchwork effect. The body of each tumbler is crafted from fused glass rods in brown, amber, and yellow, creating an exquisite contrast of transparencies and hues. The interplay of light as it passes through the various shades of glass is simply breathtaking, making each piece one-of-a-kind.
These tumblers are handmade in Murano using the challenging “a piera” technique, also known as the roll-up method, in which glass is carefully rolled onto the pipe without forming a patch. Every glass cane and element is perfectly fused together through a process called rimarginatura before being placed on the counter punty (pontello) and hand-opened. The canes retain their lens-like effect, creating an enchanting play with light.
Each tumbler is a true work of art, and when displayed as part of a set, they’ll be sure to attract attention and spark conversation. The price is per unit, so you can purchase any quantity, with complimentary shipping on orders of 12 or more. Each tumbler is signed, underscoring its authenticity.
Slight variations in height and diameter are a testament to the high level of craftsmanship that goes into creating each piece.
