Original pair of lounge chairs gastone rinaldi italy 1954, model du 55, organically shaped with curvaceous contours and ergonomic shapes. Rare u-back lounge chair, produced by rima, italy. The shape of the armchairs is sculptural, unique, and extraordinary: the armrests merge to form a backrest and seat, without restricting its comfort. The suspended backrest gives great support. The structure and takes advantage of a metal tubing construction to it's fullest. Rima later filed a patent application for the design. The chair is executed with tapered brass legs the legs of the chairs are finely designed and form a wonderful symbiosis with the organically shaped seat. This model is an early avant-garde example of a new design direction in europe., modernism with an extraordinary redefinition furniture, the lounge chairs are newly reupholstered with a high-quality fabric, off- white bouclé in alpaca wool cotton mix by pierre frey. In 1948 gastone rinaldi (1920 - 2006) became the owner of rima, a paduan company specializing in the production of metal furniture, founded by his father mario in 1920. During this position he led the brandto modern and avant-garde models, born from his deep knowledge of metals. Rinaldi makes different types of furniture that became an emblem of the transition from artisan production to industrial production in the 50s in italy, especially chairs, where the metal composition is predominant. He collaborated, among others, with gio ponti. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
