The Streamline Design Style
The name of our company, Streamline Properties, is taken from the Streamline architectural and design style that flourished in the United States from the 1930s to the 1950s. Streamline design is characterized by aerodynamic smoothness - to minimize resistance and maximize efficient motion as evidenced in many of the trains, planes and automobiles of that era. Streamline style stood for mobility, speed, efficiency and luxury -- all concepts identified with modernity. To visualize this, sharp corners were rounded off and speed lines were created by incorporating ribs or gleaming chrome strips. This design was not based on science but was inspired by the love of speed, hence the addition of architectural eyebrows on many of the exteriors of Art Deco buildings in Miami Beach. Streamline has become a metaphor for progress, symbolizing the increased momentum of modern life and the efficacy and speed needed to master it.
Streamline Properties is the pioneer real estate brokerage of Miami Beach’s historic Art Deco District. Established in 1984 during the renaissance of South Beach, we championed the preservation of Art Deco architecture in neighborhoods inspired by Ocean Drive, the cinematic backdrop that transformed South Beach into a gold mine.
Initially focused on development, Streamline acquired and renovated historic apartment buildings in the Flamingo Park neighborhood as well as prime commercial space on Washington Avenue in downtown South Beach. Leasing and property management soon followed. As we gained a reputation for innovative restoration projects and property management know-how, we recruited a strong sales team of professional agents and expanded into a full-service brokerage business.
In the early 1990’s, Streamline converted many of its renovated apartment buildings into condominiums thus spearheading the trend for international buyers to invest in Miami Beach’s booming real estate market. This netted our residential agents thousand-plus condominium-unit sales in both converted buildings and new high-rises. less
