Very beautiful cylinder desk in mahogany and speckled mahogany veneer, on an oak core, with rich chiseled and gilded bronze ornamentation: flowers, acanthus leaves, lion paws\.
It therefore opens on the front thanks to a system of sliding slats (cylinder) on a set of compartments for mail and a tray which advances, covered in leather, and has a total of 8 drawers distributed at the top and under the shelf writing.
On each side 2 leather-covered shelves can be pulled out.
The office closes entirely using a key, key and entry system known as a “cloverleaf” lock.
Center office, the quality of the cabinetmaking and bronze work is similar on all sides and can undoubtedly be compared to the work of the cabinetmaker Henry Dasson 1825-1896
Henry Dasson was inspired for this desk by a model by Jean-Henri Riesener. Ordered and delivered in 1784 by Marc-Antoine Thierry de Ville d'Avray, general intendant of the Crown Furniture, it is today kept at the Louvre Museum.
Henry Dasson is one of the most renowned cabinetmakers and bronzemakers of the second half of the 19th century.
In 1871, he took over from the cabinetmaker Charles Winckelsen and settled at 106 rue Vieille du Temple in Paris.
He quickly specialized in replicating 18th century royal furniture, with great success, thanks to the incredible quality of his work, both in terms of cabinetmaking and bronze.
His work will also be rewarded during Universal Exhibitions; he became a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1883 and an officer in 1889.
Henry Dasson died in 1896, 2 years after the closure of his workshop
