This exceptional set of four original graphite-on-paper maritime drawings originates from a New Bedford, Massachusetts estate, a region historically known for its whaling and maritime heritage. Purportedly sold to the original client as works by William Bradford (1823–1892), a celebrated 19th-century American marine artist, these pieces remain unsigned but exhibit a masterful technique reminiscent of Bradford’s renowned depictions of sailing vessels and seascapes.
Each drawing meticulously captures ships navigating the open waters, rendered with precise attention to atmospheric detail, wave movement, and nautical rigging. The compositions reflect the artist’s keen observational skills and deep appreciation for maritime life.
Framed in black wooden frames with gold beaded detailing and professionally matted, these pieces are preserved in an elegant presentation that complements their historical significance. While attribution to Bradford remains unconfirmed, the quality and subject matter make them an outstanding acquisition for collectors of marine art, 19th-century American drawings, or New England maritime history.
