Günther Uecker was born on March 13, 1930 in Wendorf, Mecklenburg. Uecker began his artistic training in 1949 by studying painting in Wismar. His next stop was the art school in Berlin-Weißensee, then in 1955 he went to Düsseldorf. There Uecker studied with Otto Pankok at the art academy, where he has worked as a teacher since 1974 until today. The first nail paintings were created there towards the end of the 1950s. Uecker comes into contact with the group ZERO, the artists Heinz Mack and Otto Piene, who advocate a new beginning for art against the German Informel. He deals with light media, researches optical phenomena, structural sequences and vibration areas that actively involve the viewer and allow them to influence the visual process through motor or manual intervention and change options. In 1962, with Mack and Piene, Uecker set up a "Salon de lumière" in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and in the Palais des Beaux Arts in Paris. Further light salons will follow in Krefeld and Frankfurt. Since the beginning of the 1960s, but especially from 1966, after the dissolution of ZERO and a last joint exhibition, Uecker has used nails as his main design tool - a material that is still at the center of his work today. Uecker starts by nailing over furniture, musical instruments and household items, then combines nails with the light theme, developing series of light nails and kinetic nails. Later, light and electricity remain a major theme, but natural materials such as sand and water are also integrated into spatial concepts and combined with the interplay of the various elements to create an event of light, space, movement and time. Uecker's entire oeuvre encompasses painting, object art, installations, but also stage sets and films across all disciplines. This piece has an attribution mark,
