A beautiful and very unusual antique early Victorian architects desk. This was made in England, and I would date it from the 1840-1860 period.
It appears as a regular pedestal desk with a gold tooled leather top, turned wooden handles and bun feet. However, on the back, there are gate leg supports that swing out, and the top unfolds to reveal a larger inner work space. There is another inset leather top inside that can be angles upwards, and six small storage compartments with lids.
We have had this re-polished, it is in lovely condition for its age. The colour tone and patina of the wood are lovely. The outer leather top has some surface wear and light marks, with one tiny repair to the leather in the middle. We could have it re-leathered, but right now the leather matches the one inside.
This is quite a rare & useful piece of furniture & is also of very high quality.
