Vintage Carved Stone Head of Guanyin Bodhisattva Buddha on Wooden Stand. Carved marble head showing Roman influence in hair and headdress. Possibly early to mid 20th century. No maker marks observed. Sits in a wood stand. Note: this piece is heavy, but can be lifted by 1 strong person.
About Guanyin
This sculpture represents Guanyin, a deity who transformed from male to female and gained a new name over two thousand years of being venerated. Guanyin's fascinating history begins in ancient India. This figure originated as the Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion, named Avalokiteśvara.
