With its simplified design and honesty of materials, this new and very Germanic trend was meant to highlight their nationalistic identity and pride by rejecting the preeminence of the French fashion epitomized by the grandiosity of the Empire with its polished precious woods and abundance of bronze mounts. Its use of blonde woods, typical of the Germanic forests, were used in their natural richness with attention to sturdiness of construction and utilitarianism. The convex curve of the backs makes them very ergonomic for their time and the sweeping curves (as viewed from its side) of the members that hold the arm rests is seductive and a testament of high design. The striped upholstery is historically correct and in good order. See less
