Neoclassical commode hand-made in Italy in the late 1700s using cherry and walnut for inlay. The commode features two large inset drawers with hand-made dovetail joints and decorated by a simple inlaid walnut veneer line. The top is made of two boards framed by flat-edged molding, and also decorated with the same simple inlay line found on the drawer fronts. The sides are also made of flat inset panels framed by flat molding, and they, too, are decorated with the walnut line. The repetition of the inlaid motif throughout the chest give it a nice balance and subtle elegance. The dresser is still sitting on its original tapered legs.
Overall this is a very well-built dresser that can be used on a daily basis. Despite its old age it is in very good shape and only a few repairs can be seen (pictured). The bleaching process gives the dresser a very modern look and brought out the beautiful colors of the cherry wood, showing striation of white and pink grain. Because of its color and straight lines this dresser will look great with modern and contemporary furniture, as well as with antiques
