The hardcover book with black linen covered boards, embossed cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Shira Editors S.P.A. Milano. Printed and bound in Italy in 2007 on the occasion of the exhibition at The Palazzo Delle Esposizioni, Rome. Edited by Oliver Wick, critic and art historian, guest curator at The Foundation Beyeler, Basel, with a preface by Christopher Rothko.

Mark Rothko ( 1903 - 1970 ) is an American Modernist painter of Russian Jewish descent. Although Rothko himself refused to adhere to any art movement, he is generally defined as an Abstract Expressionist. His bold use of color fields make the artworks impressively iconic and highly individual. Rothko is considered to be one of the most important and influential American painters of The 20th Century. Art works by Rothko are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.

Rothko's luminous art is presented here in this beautifully produced, oversized exhibition monograph volume with roughly 100 works ( 70 paintings in full-color plates and 28 drawings ) from private collections. It features 176 lithograph print illustrations, including 98 in full color, a multi-page center fold out illustration, artist chronology, and a complete bibliography.
