German origin, work of the clockmaker David Beringer 1756–1821 active in Nuremberg, famous for his cubic sundials exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, this ancient scientific instrument is in good condition with signs of wear compatible with dating from around 1785.

The sundial is a horizontal line that passes through the North and South points. Meridiana, in our language, is also synonymous with sundial. from ancient times to the present day, sundials of different types, shapes and sizes have been created, such as portable models that performed the functions of our wrist and pocket watches. Different peoples and different cultures have then adopted various ways of measuring time in relation to their needs: in fact, ancient sundials can still be observed which do not follow the hours we use today (astronomical hours) but, for example, Babylonian hours, Italic hours, canonical hours, etc. in 1600 and 1700 through the production of many specimens
