This lovely La Fonda armchair is the absolute eye catcher in every stylish room. It is reupholstered with a bright orange fabric and its typical legs have been repainted in white.
The La Fonda armchairs are named after the legendary restaurant La Fonda Del Sol in New York, which was established in 1961. Charles & Ray Eames were asked to design this chair for the restaurant`s dining room, which was designed by their friend Alexander Girard.
The seating elements should harmonize perfectly with the rest of the furniture.
The La Fonda design was revolutionary for the Eames as it had the first fixed upholstery which would later be used with all plastic chairs. It also had a special gel mixed with the mold to make the fiberglass matte in finish. This resulted in the shell only ever being available in one color. The fully upholstered version has moulded polyurethane foam padding covered in fabric, attached to the shell with a welted edge.
The La Fonda is probably one of the most elegant and unconventional chairs ever designed by Eames. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
