Chinese Export Porcelain Famille Rose Teapot and Cover with Birds,
Circa 1740-50
The circular globular teapot is unusually painted to either side of the spout with two orange geese, one flying in and about to land, with two other unusual birds similarly colored with blue and green wings standing on blue rockwork. Either side of the handle are peony and green plants growing from blue rockwork. Along the back of the handle and along the front of the spout is an iron-red plant with a flowerhead and a long leafy stem. Around the top rim and the edge of the cover is a pink-ground diaper band and slender floral cartouches. The finial is in the form of a flower bud.
