Spode c.1810 in the rare discontinued Castle Pattern.
A meat drainer such as this would’ve once had a matching platter that it would fit into. Often used a centerpiece for the table, a roast would be carved on the inset drainer so the juices drain through the holes onto the platter underneath.
It is rare to find drainers intact, as you can imagine, they became a little greasy and often were broken in the washing up process! Very collectible today, some use them as trivets, hang them as a part of a gallery wall, or even use them as inserts into custom-made tables.
This pattern has recently been revived by Spode as a tribute to their heritage collection and can only be found in a limited edition as one of 6 classic themes in their set of Blue Room plates.
