murano artisans produce glass objects, using various minerals to give color to the glass. When the glass mass is heated, the minerals melt and create colors such as blue from cobalt or red from gold, green from iron or pink from manganese. Colors are often layered on top of each other with a special technique called sommerso.
submerged:
it is a technique in which multiple layers are applied to blown glass objects. These layers are usually different colors. This effect is achieved by dipping the object several times in molten glass of different colors. This produces very thick and heavy glass objects. The technique was developed in murano in the 1930s. Sommerso literally means "submerged". The technique makes the name meaningful. This piece has an attribution mark,
