Lovely piece of provincial France in this vintage earthenware pot
A large clay vessel used for casseroles and stews, the pot is glazed on the interior and on the top of the lid, while the rest of the body is left unglazed. The attached handle is hollow. It bears an “8” and the “Bazar Francais, Vallauris, Made in France” mark on the bottom of the pot and on the underside of the lid.
Crafted in the seaside commune of Vallauris for the famous New York kitchenware boutique, Bazar Francais, that operated from 6th Avenue from 1929 until 1975, it is at once iconic and down-to-earth.
With its earthy burnt orange and terracotta tones, it would be a lovely piece of decor in any kitchen ranging from farmhouse and rustic to cottage and bungalow.
