A very rare and strikingly attractive early georgian oak ‘chest on chest’ of drawers in wonderful seemingly all original antique condition. Most likely made in england during the reign of george ii around 1740-1760, this fabulous, versatile and extremely useful piece is dripping with aged appeal. Its gorgeous colouring and knockout aesthetic of genuine english antiquity will enhance any interior with a super mix of georgian country house splendour and quintessential rustic farmhouse charm.
a super space-saving piece, this reassuringly heavy and hardy oak chest is especially rare and useable for its neat size. Although by no means small, for a chest on chest it’s unusually compact and packs a lot of storage into a relatively modest space. Made in two separate parts (upper and lower) ensures that it’s extremely portable and versatile.
traditionally crafted, this stunning oak chest features two short drawers sitting above four long graduated drawers, all oak-lined and with trim bordering and the seemingly original (rare) brass swan-neck handles and brass escutcheons, all with working locks and a key.
it has durable oak plank sides and top, three sections of attractive, graduated edging, a pine back and is set on shapely bracket feet.
all in all this wonderful piece is an antique lover’s dream – genuine, stunning, practical, versatile and durable, it oozes genuine georgian country house charm and will be a knockout in any setting.
condition
this super piece is in very-good-to-excellent antique condition. Reassuringly heavy but coming in two parts for ease of moving, its rustic appeal and hardiness are amplified by being made of quality oak. Seemingly all original, it is structurally sound and has only to-be-expected marks and bumps to denote its considerable age. The are some minor areas of historic woodworm for which the whole piece has been treated for good measure. Overall it's a stunning early georgian chest on chest and if well looked after it should be just as breathtaking and usable for many more generations to come – please see the photos.
