Beautiful James Tucker "Dune Figure" Painting Framed. Dune figure is one of Tucker’s later works, and it demonstrates his simple, colorful way of painting. In this piece, he silhouettes figures on the expansive Ocracoke, North Carolina landscape, typical of his paintings in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. In his earlier works, Tucker experimented with abstract expressionism and pointillism, a technique of painting using small dots of color. Frame measures 37 x25" painting is on a canvas measures 36 x 24"
GREENSBORO — James E. Tucker, 80, of 632 Scott Ave., died Sunday , Dec. 19, at Maryfield after a long illness.
He was born in Rule, TX, August 13, 1930, to Lillie Brashears Tucker and J. E. Tucker, the youngest of 5 brothers and one sister, all of whom predeceased him. After graduating from Seymour, TX, High School in 1948, he attended Santa Monica City College and Midwestern U. in Wichita Falls, TX, before enlisting in the Air Force in January 1951. After being honorably discharged from the service in the fall of 1954 as a Staff Sgt. , he enrolled at the Univ. of Texas and completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in August 1956 and met his future wife, Virginia Acheson Johns. The following spring they were married and the same year he received a scholarship for graduate study at the State Univ. of Iowa and received the Master of Fine Arts degree in 1959. That fall he joined the faculty of the Woman's College of the University of NC--now UNCG--as curator of the Weatherspoon Art Gallery, a position which he held for 26 years, retiring in January 1986.
He was also an active painter for many years, and his works are represented in many collections in Greensboro and elsewhere.
