This antique 1850s Falmouth chair is a one-of-a-kind hand painted piece that has been reupholstered with a traditional hand-made Kuba Cloth. The original chair is an antique from the coastal furniture makers of Falmouth, Massachusetts.
Kuba cloth is made by Bak uba people of Democratic Republic of Congo. Each cloth is hand woven with raffia from Raffia Vinefera palm tree. Historically, the Kuba cloth was fashioned as a African ceremonial garment and was mainly worn for wedding ceremonies and funerals.
