BIO:
Susan Jameson was born in Cumberland, England in 1944. In 1963 she received a traveling Scholarship to Italy. From 1964 to 1965 she attended the Goldsmiths College of Art in London. From 1971 to 1973 she studied at the Central School of Art in London. She is one of the most respected practitioners of the art of mezzotint, having specialized in this rare printmaking technique for over 25 years. Although she is an accomplished painter and has worked very successfully in other media it is mezzotint which is her first love and with which she is most associated.
The ideas concerning the relationship between man and the natural universe, which Susan expresses, reflect very much her origins in the Cumbrian Countryside. She portrays the strength of nature. Its awesome but wondrous presence can be seen in her moonlit seascapes, majestic mountains, and her windswept skies. Working in mezzotint, a medium mastered by only a handful of artists today, she has been acclaimed by museums and galleries alike and has given many exhibitions in the USA, Europe, and Japan over the last twenty years.
Jameson has exhibited throughout Europe and the USA, holding many one-man shows, notably at the Graffiti Gallery in London. Her work is in public and private collections throughout the world, including the British Council Collection and the Modern Art Gallery, Naples. Her work has been shown in Print Biennales in Krakow, Ljubljana, and Biella.
All of her prints are printed in her own studio on the south coast of England in collaboration with her husband John Bonner, using non-fugitive inks and high quality 100% rag paper. Jameson's work is used as a fine example of the mezzotint printing technique in "The Complete Guide to Printmaking Techniques and Materials" edited by John Dawson (1981), published by BCA, London.
