This rare hand-tinted etched illustration from a French botany collection of mycology is nothing short of extraordinary. This print is of the Argaric Sanguin, a species of mushroom. Agaric is a relation of the regular mushroom, but its tops are convex (or sometimes flat) with the gills on underside of cap. Sanguin translates into English as 'blood' or 'firey', and connotes not just the title of what this mushroom is called but also its vibrant hued exterior.
Etched illustration was matched and inserted into an equally beautiful Italian gold curved and carved frame, which shows its age with some minor scuff marks in some places (as seen in photos) which only enhances the overall aesthetic of this piece of art and truly makes the red in the mushroom cap sing. Glass is not museum quality/glare resistant, so it is highly recommended to *not* hang/display in direct sunlight.
