Jacque Evans
Evans was born near the artist colony of Carmel, California into a family whose very existence was the weaving of a tapestry of art.Primarily self-taught, her abilities have been augmented and intensified by study, experience and dedication. As with many artists, portions of the experiences of life have been sacrificed for the sake of her art, and simultaneously those sacrifices have led to its magnificence. She has the rare ability to combine the critical eye of a technician with spirituality, the infusion of which creates works imbued with more than life. Her fantasies are believable, and like her real life paintings, plunge one into the mystery of the inner soul of the subject as well as the viewer.Unlike the typical paintings of Indians seen particularly in this area she portrays them in a manner that depicts the true depth of their culture. This is a direct result of exhaustive study and participation in many cultures and religions. Born under the sign of Aquarius, her inner devotion to the brotherhood of man-to-mankind, and man to his animal brothers is readily apparent to even the most unaware. Her unique affinity with animals is reflected not only in her work but also in the strange menagerie that surrounds her in her daily life, and explains her deep interest and participation in animal conservation. Probably the strongest factor lending to her personal character is her gratitude and reverence for her talent, which she considers a gift to be developed and shared by all. She never hesitates to donate her work to worthy causes, believing that in this way she can bring benefit and happiness to the greatest number of people and giving little thought to the commercial aspects that hamper the charitable sense of many.
