The chest … Read more Louis XVI chest of drawers/ commode hand-made in Italy in the late 1700s using walnut and walnut veneer. The chest is not your typical Louis xvi because of its provenience, the feet are turned and obtained from the same rounded element that creates the corner column of the piece, which make this a very sturdy piece of furniture. The sides are made of flat chamfered panels framed by flat molding, which add a bit of depth to a piece that is very linear. On the front the commode features three inset drawers with flat fronts and beautiful hand-made dovetail joints. The pulls and escutcheons might not be original but they are also antique and match the style of the commode perfectly. The top has flat edges and rounded corners, following the shape of the case. Interestingly, the whole top and its sides are coated with a thin layer of walnut veneer.
The commode is very elegant in lines and proportions, yet it can be also placed in a more rustic environment and feel right at home. The color of the bleached walnut is light but warm and the wood grain works are beautiful decoration, giving the flat surfaces a lot of depth See less
