It came to us from a collector's auction on the east coast. Two thick lug handles rest on top of the cask. There do appear to be superficial cracks as shown in the photos. The body is wrapped with thick braided rope elements. The branding on the front appears to reference the Nippon Brewing Company (though our translation is open to correction). The latest estimated date is 1930s, but casks were in use for many years prior. See less
