With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this remarkable antique dining table. This table is an excellent example of the most recognizable form of dining tables which were made towards the end of the 19th century and into the beginning of the 20th century. In the Victorian period these circular form tables were incredibly popular and commonly made with rounded turned pedestals and four outward stretching legs typically carved with lion paw feet. The example we now proudly offer is a rarer Arts & Crafts period variation constructed with an obelisk form pedestal and a singular shaped base curved on every side to form four individual legs.
The entire table is built from a premium grade of white oak with bold quartersawn grain that produces tiger striped grain in rich detail. The table has developed a wonderful depth of color with a balance of golden oak and slightly darker oak tones that bring out the full beauty of the wood. The top of the table features heavy flake tiger oak grain which is the highest designation of figuring with respect to how wood is graded in the broader lumber industry. The table features a continuous apron with a molded accent, fine base molding where the pedestal meets the platform base, and caster wheels to help move the table around. The original table latching mechanism allows for the table to expand and clasp shut with the simple turn of the knob. This mechanism is identified as "The Ideal Table Lock" of Williamsport Pennsylvania and based upon the hardware origins we assume that this table was made somewhere in the northeast. The table is able to accept additional tables leaves if desired in the future however none are currently present. The base was reinforced on one side with three screws which were left visible along the edge of the platform base. The table has a 54" circular round top and stands 29 3/4" tall. less
