Drawing of a street vendor and his donkey by artist Walter Shirlaw (1838-1909). Shirlaw was born in Scotland and immigrated with his parents to America soon after. He was one of the first instructors at the Art Students League of New York, a member of the National Academy of Design, and a founder of the Society of American Artists. Shirlaw moved to Spain in 1904 and died there in 1909.
Signed lower left and inscribed "Madrid" on verso.
