The painting is … Read more Delightful, large oil painting on canvas depicting the famous Casina delle Civette in Villa Torlonia, Rome, Italy. The painting is very large and well made, dating back to around 1970 and equipped with a beautiful hand-carved wooden frame and embellished with floral decorations hand-engraved on the wood and silver leaf decorations. The painting is signed by the artist with a difficult to read signature, it looks like "M. Bono", but we are not sure, in fact we have not found anything online with this name. The Casina delle Civette was built in 1840 by the architect Giuseppe Jappelli commissioned by Prince Alessandro Torlonia, and was the home of Giovanni Torlonia junior until 1938. Nicknamed in this way because in the first decades of the 20th century, Duilio Cambellotti executed various decorations depicting of the Owls in various points of the villa, in the windows of the house for example, or in the various capitals of the columns, which have bas-relief decorations, always depicting owls and above all the large ceramic plaque in bas-relief immediately above the arch of the central door, decorated with two large owls, nest and babies in bas-relief, for this reason the villa took the name of "Casina delle Civette". Historic building, very important and famous in the Italian capital, with elements in wood, tuff and stone, which, a few years ago, became a museum open to the public and can be visited.
