A handsome antique cutler's stool, dating to the 19th century and hailing from Sheffield, England. Made of elm wood and featuring distinct turning markings on its three legs, this piece has a unique history. This stool would have originally been cut directly from a workers bench and made specifically to the cutler's specifications so they could position themselves at a suitable working height as they carried out the cutlery making process.
This unique piece features a wonderful patina with plenty of signs of wear and use. The seat is quite textural, but a work of art in itself. The stool is structurally sound and could still be used as seating if you so wish.
The stool measures 19" wide, 18-3/4" deep, and 26" tall. The seat itself is 16-1/4" wide and 8-1/2" deep. less
