He studied at the Lyon School of Fine Arts (between 1926 and 1931), a student of Georges Decote.
He began his career as a painter-decorator with mural painting. He decorated, alone and then with his wife Renée Besson, 11 churches (between 1928 and 1946) as well as educational premises and head offices (between 1937 and 1965).
from 1935, under the influence of Jean Dunand, he approached the lacquer technique which became his main mode of expression until 1983. Installed in Ile-Barbe, then in Ecully near Lyon, he created a large number of decorative panels, doors, screens, furniture\. and constitutes a personal style coming from the naturalistic themes of oriental lacquer but evolving towards the fantastic, powerfully colored. He works with synthetic lacquer in relief enhanced with gold and silver. Its clients are Lyon-based contractors (Chaleyssin, Pierrefeu, Bégule, etc.) who install homes, head offices, town halls and administrations.
