Description: Early 18th century, English walnut, small slant front bureau or a desk. Do not mistake the rarity of this small … more Early 18th century, English walnut, small slant front bureau or a desk. Do not mistake the rarity of this small desk. This size, as you might guess, is very seldom found. A slant lid with exotic inlay, likely rosewood, opens to reveal an early style interior with scalloped valances above pigeon holes in this earliest of desk forms. Two drawers at each side flank the central interior with scalloped dividers. These outboard drawers have curved fronts. At center are three pigeon holes above two small drawers. A sliding lower central lid allows you to take your papers from a compartment. Within the lid is beautifully patinaed red leather with embossing, brass hinges, and a brass lock. Later Chippendale style brasses decorate a crotch grain façade of three working drawers, and one faux drawer above. Each drawer façade is framed with herringbone inlay.
