This 1996 large 26 x 36 Purvis Young "Freedom in the City" Poster, Signed + Gallery 721 Seal was purchased at the Gallery 721 in Fort Lauderdale by then owner, Larry Clemons. Gallery 721 was artist's primary rep., that s were we purchased our other pieces by Purvis Young as well.
The artist took a color photo of the original art piece that was oil paint on wood then created a limited amount of prints. Sealed and stamped by the gallery that exclusively represented Purvis Young while he was alive.
Purvis Young paints on scrap lumber and plywood that he scavenges from the streets and vacant lots of Overtown, the historically black neighborhood where he lives in Miami, Florida, and whose long deterioration he has witnessed.
This poster has been in a from this whole time, it is in pristine condition. No bended cover, wrinkles, etc. Had to used gentle painter blue type to take the photos.
