A fine pair of McClelland Barclay (1891-1943) designed bronzed bookends, circa 1920-30. The seated figures look to be wearing a long durable apron with each supporting a hammer in the left hand leaning on a rock or anvil. Most likely a blacksmith or iron worker. Most likely produced in conjunction with The Depression Era WPA government projects. Constructed of cast spelter or zinc and bronzed.
Good overall condition. Both are missing their felted bottoms. Structurally sound and sturdy design. Some minor cosmetic wear and scuffs due to age and use. No visible cracks.
Approximately 3.5" deep x 3.63" wide x 5.25" high. less
