Made with hand-knotted wool circa 1900, this 10x13 antique Pesian rug is a rare new turn-of-the-century curation from Rug & Kilim; a Tehranian design often called a “sele Tehran” rug.
On the Design:
An overall cream tone underscores elaborate and elegant floral patterns in the all over style, which enjoy rose red, blue, and green tones in their play of flowers and pictorial vases. Admirers of the craft will recognize these botanicals as a Golfarang design; the particular “foreign flower” associated with European patterns in Persian rugs (though not always seen with these vases). Keen eyes will further note the thick, durable pile, which is another distinction of Tehranian rugs among their many sought-after traits—held by many in our craft in the same esteem as Kerman rugs for their similar beauties. It’s both an exciting find in collectible rugs and a delicious, comfortable choice of both warm and welcoming presence.
