Pair of sculptural Italian cocoon table or table lamps, 1970s. Bodies formed by the superimposition of several varnished pine wood elements of different shapes and sizes, creating two curious columns of a certain Memphis and brutalist style, handcrafted. Both columns culminate with separate lampshades made with a metal frame covered in cocoon resin. Very rare pieces, for any type of decoration.
Cocoon material was invented after World War II to protect unarmed warships and other unprotected items. It is made from powdered plastic and fiberglass. Arturo Eisenkeil imported this material to Italy, with which he made a multitude of decorative lamps and marketed them.
For two E14 bulbs. Structure in perfect condition. Renewed electrical installation (without installing switches before being shipped). The cocoon screens show minimal signs of use.
Large: 66cm high, 18cm diameter.
Small: 53 cm high, 18 cm diameter.
