Two attractive 19th century Korean dowery boxes in brown rattan and red hand-painted papier-mâché, the one slightly larger in delicately … Read more Two attractive 19th century Korean dowery boxes in brown rattan and red hand-painted papier-mâché, the one slightly larger in delicately interwoven brown rattan with an onyx tassel attached to the handle and the other a more simple red papier-mâché box with black re-inforced corners and which is nevertheless attractively lined with green and white pattern paper lining in a beautiful exotic floral design. Both boxes would make elegant elements of decorations in which one could also store personal items ideal for a bedroom or a family room. These dowery boxes or trousseaux were destined for the future bride to present to her in laws when she married and usually contained a selection of personal items clothes, linen and objects etc. Korean, 19th century. Measures: 16.5" W X 7" H X 13.5" D the rattan. 16" W X 4.75" H X 9"D the red papier-mâché. See less
