beautiful wide woodwork with curved medallion back, tapered legs with deep grooves. Original padding. Covered in polka dot embroidered silk in excellent condition. The stamp is located on one of the two seats, below, on the rear crossbar.
pierre remy (1724-1798) cabinetmaker. Paris. Master on 8 may 1750. He ran a considerable establishment in the rue poissonière.
son of a master carpenter and nephew of the great cabinetmaker gilles joubert, pierre rémy, after being admitted as a master in 1750, opened a very important workshop and trade in wood for construction and industry, rue poissonnière. He specialized in the production of seats. We find his signature on beautiful works, louis xv armchairs mounted on frames, with carved decorations of roses and foliage with large moldings. Some of his transition seats have a curved shape with neoclassical motifs. His production of louis xvi armchairs, less abundant, is worked in natural wood with often arched backs, carved with foliage, interlacing, plates, laurel and acanthus.
