Vintage Alvar Aalto 45 armchair made in the 1970s by Artek. Great condition with patinated cane on the arms and original flax linen webbing. The load-bearing legs and arm-rests of this lightweight armchair were made according to the previously invented manufacturing method for Aalto furniture: solid timber slats sawn very thin were glued on top of each other and bent in a mould to the shape of the curve. The frame of the chair remains visible due to the lightness of the upholstery. Rattan, leather or linen fabric was used for the upholstery. The chair was shown to the Finnish public at an exhibition entitled Arkkitehtien Aino ja Alvar Aallon töitä vuosilta 1922-1947 (Work by the architects Aino and Alvar Aalto 1922-1947) at the Kunsthalle Helsinki from 28.9.1947 to 12.10.1947. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
