José Luis Florit Rodero (Madrid, 1909-Paris, 2000). Draftsman and painter. Trained in Olot and Figueras, he was guided in his early years by Juan Núñez, later studying at the San Fernando School in Madrid, where he later took an engraving course with Esteve Botey. In 1930 he exhibited in Madrid, together with Remedios Varo. He was a founding member of the group Artistas en Acción. In 1933 he obtained a Third Medal at the National Exhibition and in 1935 he exhibited individually at the Museum of Modern Art and in Madrid, and participated in the Venice Biennale. In 1936 he obtained a Second Medal at the National and the position of Professor of Drawing, which is why he moved to Barcelona. After the Civil War, he was appointed artistic director of the "Diario de Barcelona". Around 1952 he began a period of mural painting that lasted until 1960, when a sudden evolution began both in the concept and in the execution of his pictorial work. He has held more than twenty individual exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions. In 1967, José Luis Florit won the Bronze Medal at the Zaragoza Biennial, for the painting titled Landscape, and in 1969 the Estrada Saladich Foundation Prize. It is represented in numerous Spanish and foreign museums such as the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid.
