Fotos Hadjisoteriou (1919-2004) was born and lived in Famagusta until the age of 55, when he was forced to flee his hometown due to its occupation by the Turkish army. As a refugee in his own land, he brought with him only the rich memories of an entire life and the hope of one day returning. In 1979, he painted the symbolic work “Hope,” depicting an endless blue sky and sea of Famagusta from the open window of a farmhouse. The painting was constructed through a pleasing conversation between three colors typical of Cypriot space: blue, terracotta, and white. This piece has an attribution mark,
