Pellegrini, a Milanese … more Beautiful oil painting by the well-known and internationally traded Italian artist Riccardo Pellegrini (Milan 1863 - Crescenzago1934).
Pellegrini, a Milanese painter and student of Domenico Morelli, is known for his landscape and genre paintings. He skillfully showcases the simple life, often through his study trips to France, Spain and England, among others. The play with light and shadow, the color compositions, the snapshot of an actor in the picture during their daily work is his specialty.
His artistic work was highly valued, leading to joint projects such as those with Carlo Bugatti.
The genre painting offered here in portrait format depicts a woman knitting/sewing. She sits engrossed in her work in a courtyard near the corner of a house with a statue of the Virgin Mary attached.
A small columned corner below the statue surrounds the corner.
from the front left side, the shadow of the invisible part of the building darkens half of the scene.
He skillfully highlights the different surfaces of the building parts as well as the floor. You can literally feel the morbid charm of this simple stone house, which can be anywhere in Italy. The colors are kept in warm earth tones. Only the lady with the bright red headscarf with white dots and her white cape with green parts form a striking contrast and thus make her stand out. His signature, which he often painted in this red, also catches the viewer's eye.
The picture is painted in oil on a thin wooden panel.
The picture also reveals a lot on the back.
On the one hand, the Milanese art supplies Fratelli Zari,
where the painting board was once sold.
Also something about the history in Germany.
It was based in the Frankfurt area for many decades.
There it was framed again.
Something special, but justifiable with a certain sense of humor, important telephone numbers such as emergency numbers etc. were noted by one of the former owners. It can be removed using ammonia, but it doesn't bother you and is part of the story in a certain way.
The image dimensions are 22 x 13.5 cm
The outer frame dimensions 31.3 x 23 cm
Good condition.
