Since the Middle Ages, the butcher's trade has been one of the most lucrative occupations. This was often reflected in their high-quality furniture. Even back then, the first butcher's blocks were made with a top consisting of many individual pieces of squared hardwood to create a work surface that was as robust as possible. The principle has remained the same to this day.
This French model is an outstanding example from the 19th century. The traces of over 100 years of work and the preserved patina are unique. Placed in a kitchen, shop or restaurant, this piece is both practical and of enormous decorative value.
Good condition, with signs of age-related wear, as well as some repairs and minor damage to the plate on the back left (see photos). Completely cleaned with steel wool without destroying the original patina. Then resealed transparently for a clean, resistant surface. New turned feet added to bring the height up to modern standards.
The furniture consists of 3 parts, the base, the heavy top and the backboard. less
